Mechanical engineers Horstmann don’t want to abstain from keytech
In May 2007, at Horstmann Maschinenbau GmbH the starting signal for the switch to the new 3D CAD system Solid Works coupled with the introduction of a product data management system (PDM) for the management of complex model structures. The mechanical engineer from Heek plans, designs and manufactures special machines, storage, transportation systems and complete systems for handling technology, which often include 80,000 or more parts.
The PDM solution should support users in managing development, engineering and production data and optimize existing processes. Due to the extensive requirements of the future PDM system at Horstmann engineering, keytech could clearly distinguished from the competition. For the Horstmann Maschinenbau GmbH ultimately, the functionality, the modular design and the flexibility of keytech were decisive.
With the beginning of the first phase in June 2007, the four newly acquired 3D design workstations were equipped with Solid Works and keytech. Also on the four existing AutoCAD jobs the new PDM system has been integrated. For the third quarter of 2007 the connection of the implemented ERP system has begun.
Moreover keytech should automatically react to specific events in the ERP system. Since then, the Horstmann Maschinenbau GmbH is able when creating a new order in the ERP system automatically creates a project folder in keytech with prescribed structure. Within this folder offerings, specifications and all other relevant documents are included. This functionality enables the user to version and manage all project-related documents centralizied. Thus keytech has, in addition to all PLM requirements, developed to a complete document management system for the Horstmann Maschinenbau GmbH.
In late 2007, the keytech module "Image" was introduced to relieve the users from the production of neutral formats such as PDF or TIFF. In addition to this neutral formats also based automated delivery of complete sets of drawings on paper, the format needs as required on a large format plotter (for sizes A0 to A2) and on an office printer (A3 and A4) are distributed and spent.
"Our demands on the PDM system were definitely extensive. Only keytech was able to map most of the functions was in default. For us, the decision was made in favor keytech relatively early in the evaluation phase, as we quickly realized what it can do to the modular system. Today I can say that at Horstmann Maschinenbau GmbH concerning document management, we don’t want to abstain from keytech anymore “, Bruno Weßeling, keytech designer and administrator at Horstmann Maschinenbau GmbH.
The success of the Horstmann Maschinenbau GmbH and the concomitant growth caused further recruitments and now to a doubling of construction jobs. All other employees of Horstmann, who need access to the data stored in keytech documents, are attached via keytech office licenses to the system.
The intense merger of PLM and ERP system led to dramatic time savings in the work processes. What used to be implemented in exhausting manual labor is is now facilitated or even removed completely by keytech. A positive side effect is the reduction of the error rate concerning data management. Data redundancy, the search for the current file or multiple data entry at Horstmann belongs to the past.
In 2012, Horstmann Maschinenbau GmbH plans to update to the new version 12 keytech surfaces. Technicians
